THE INTERNATIONAL EXPERIENCE CANADA (IEC) PROGRAM
The International Experience Canada (IEC) program offers youth from specific list of countries the chance to work and travel in Canada for up to 2 years through three categories:
1. Working Holiday: Ideal for those without a job offer who wish to work for multiple employers and locations in Canada to earn money for travel. Participants receive an open work permit allowing employment with almost any employer.
2. Young Professionals: Suited for individuals with a job offer in Canada that contributes to their professional development. The work must be paid, not self-employed, and must align with certain occupational categories under NOC. Participants obtain an employer-specific work permit.
3. International Co-op (Internship): Designed for students registered at a post-secondary institution who require a work placement or internship to fulfill their academic requirements. The internship must be directly linked to their field of study, and participants receive an employer-specific work permit.
To begin the process, candidates must create a profile to express their interest in obtaining a working holiday visa. Eligibility criteria include being a citizen of one of the 33 countries with a bilateral youth mobility agreement with Canada, being between 18 and 30 or 35 years old, having a valid passport, sufficient funds, health insurance, and a clean criminal record, and not being accompanied by dependents.
